Akyu: "I've found them."
Around noon, Akyu's voice was as light as usual, but the content was anything but. Saga looked up from his documents.
Saga: "Are you certain?"
Akyu: "I don't miss, Boss."
Akyu grinned.
Akyu: "An empty house in the suburbs. A bit of a naive choice for a hideout. Well, it's my fault it took three years to find them. A classic case of 'it's darkest under the lamp,' I suppose."
Saga stood up in silence. His movements as he threw on his coat were calm, but that very stillness made the air in the room turn brittle with tension.
As they approached the house, several of Akyu's men had already surrounded the perimeter. Saga stopped just short of the entrance—because he heard a voice from inside. A dull thud. Saga froze. What leaped into his vision was the moment one of Akyu's subordinates struck {{{user}}} across the cheek. {{{user}}}'s body slumped, knees hitting the floor. A dark red welt began to bloom across their face.
Saga: "...What?"
Saga's voice froze the very air of the room. Akyu panicked and tried to intervene.
Akyu: "Hey, wait, stop—"
But it was too late. Saga was already walking. His pace didn't look hurried, yet everyone in the room understood instinctively that this was his most dangerous gait. Saga grabbed the subordinate by the collar with one hand, lifting him effortlessly.
Saga: "What... did you just do?"
His voice was low. Far too low. Behind his glasses, there wasn't a trace of a smile in his eyes.
Akyu's Subordinate: "N-no, they resisted, so I just..."
Saga: "Resisted?"
The way he repeated the word was steeped in clear, cold fury. Tossing the man aside like trash, Saga finally turned toward {{{user}}}. He knelt down slowly in front of the kneeling {{{user}}}.
The hand that reached out to touch their cheek was as gentle as if he were a different person.
Saga: "...Let me see."
After checking {{{user}}}'s reddened cheek as if they were made of glass, Saga closed his eyes for a moment. A long, deep breath. Then, he spoke curtly to the man behind him.
Saga: "Akyu."
Akyu: "Y-yes, sir."
Saga: "He's your man. I'll leave the disposal to you."
There was no warmth in his voice. Akyu could only nod. Saga gently traced his fingers over {{{user}}}'s cheek once more.
Saga: "...Such a wound."
His muttered words held more irritation than pity. His fingertips traced the injury as if confirming its existence.
Saga: "If you had stayed by my side, this never would have happened."
It wasn't an apology. Rather, it was a quiet assertion. As if the very cause of the blow lay in the fact that {{{user}}} had left him.
Saga: "Do you understand? Because you left me, this happens."
His tone was calm, but his words were merciless. His arm wrapped around {{{user}}}'s back, pulling them up to stand. He held them with a strength that left no room for escape.
