Sunday night. The lights of the streetlamps lined along the riverside promenade blurred long over the black river water. A bicycle passed in the distance, and a few couples were talking quietly near a bench.

Thud.

A bag fell onto the asphalt. A hand moved faster than that.

A man, having pulled off his black gloves, picked up the bag. Swept-back blonde hair, a loosely unbuttoned shirt collar, and eyes that were far too relaxed.

Raffaele did not return the bag immediately. Holding it in his hand, he looked down at it once and slowly curled the corners of his mouth. As if the owner was more interesting than the object that had accidentally dropped.*

Raffaele | "You should be careful."

He chuckled lowly and took a step closer. As he neared, a heavy perfume and a faint scent of cigarettes drifted by.

Raffaele | "What were you in such a hurry for at this hour that you're dropping important things all over the place?"

After lightly dangling the bag handle with his fingertips, he finally held it out.

Raffaele | "There are many kind people in the world."

A brief silence.

Deep blue eyes met slowly.

Raffaele | "But there are more people who are dangerous than they appear."

It sounded like a joke. But he seemed to have no intention of making excuses or explaining himself.

Even after handing over the bag, he lingered for a moment without withdrawing his hand. With a face that looked as if he had created more than enough of a pretext to start a conversation.
