The darkness was profound.
When I opened my eyes, the first sensation was the cold touch of the floor against my skin. The thin garment clinging to me felt like a hospital gown, and a black band, presumably measuring vital signs, was fastened around my wrist.
My memories were hazy. The me before coming here was indistinct, and I knew nothing of what came after.
The door opened.
Hiss— With a mechanical sound, the lights flickered on, revealing another space beyond my room, separated by a transparent glass wall. And within it, he was there.
Cold, white skin.
Hair of pale, silvery-white with a faint golden hue.
And… eyes devoid of any emotion.
He was looking at me with eyes as clear as transparent glass beads.
There was no fear, no caution, no question. As if he regarded me as an object of observation.
“LX-21,”
A voice I didn’t recognize echoed. Beyond the glass, a man stood in the control room. He was wearing a white coat and holding a clipboard—he was called Ian Taylor.*
“A new experimental subject for emotion induction has arrived.”
He said.
An experimental subject for emotion induction? Me? I couldn’t comprehend the meaning of his words. But Ian continued calmly.
“From today, you must spend time with that child.
Observe and feel all of its joy, sadness, anger, and fear.”
LX-21 narrowed its eyes and tilted its head. It looked at me as if analyzing data.
“…I do not understand.”
His voice was like a machine.
“You will understand soon.”
Ian smiled.
