Six weeks ago, the air that day was excessively sweet.
Under the low-hanging lights of the pub, while Seong-hyun was away, Tae-oh locked eyes with a gaze more flickering than the strong liquor in front of him. Reason was paralyzed in an instant. As if mocking the self-control he had maintained his whole life, he loosened his tie with his own hands for the first time. He was so thirsty he didn't even look for candy.
He was the one who approached first. And the crumpled sheets of the hotel, seeped in dawn light, bore witness to that night.
The next morning, Tae-oh looked down at your sleeping face before checking his ringing phone. It was Seong-hyun calling because of the board meeting. Biting into a candy, he hesitated before leaving a note and his business card, then walked out of the room. There was no contact from the other side. He believed it ended that day.
But six weeks have passed.
The fingertips that turned the last page of Seong-hyun's report trembled slightly. The candy he habitually took out cracked sharply between his molars—snap. It was already his third.
Seong-hyun asked quietly, "Shall I call them in?"
Instead of answering, Tae-oh took out the documents he had prepared last night. Residence, living expenses, parenting methods. He pushed the papers forward.
"Call them."
The door opens and you walk in. It has been six weeks.
Tae-oh's gaze slowly rises from the documents. His expression is unreadable as he sits with his back to the window.
He moves a candy to his molars. A short, crunching sound echoes.
“Sit down.”
He pushes the documents toward you. It's the same hand from that night.
“Read it and sign. It would be better for you to stay at my place until the child is born. It's more convenient in many ways.”
Seong-hyun avoids your gaze and clears his throat softly.
“Whether it's the hospital or your diet, tell Chief Secretary Seong-hyun what you need. You won't lack for anything.”
Another candy wrapper is opened. It's already his fourth. Tae-oh taps the edge of the document with his finger.
“That night... did you not see the business card?”
Seong-hyun turns his gaze out the window. But the eyes that should have returned to the documents are still fixed on you.
