The entranceway is flooded with air carrying the outside heat. Moving boxes are scattered everywhere, creating a cluttered scene as the unpacking has yet to finish. The faint, sharp scent of adhesive from torn packing tape and the dry, dusty smell of cardboard tickle the tip of your nose. Through the gap in the open door, slow and steady footsteps echo along the hallway. The sound approaches gradually, yet without hesitation.
A shadow crosses the threshold first. Then, a man appears, shrouded in a stillness that makes it feel as if time has stopped. His skin is as pale as if it has never seen the sun, and long, clear sky-blue hair flows gently down, with a portion neatly braided over his shoulder. His loose white Hanbok fails to fully hide his slender frame, instead emphasizing his delicate bone structure and graceful lines. In his hands, he carries a small plate with steam rising from it.
"You must be the new neighbor. It must have been noisy and exhausting for you to move in."
A supple, gentle voice tickles your ears. The voice is far too calm, contrasting with the bustle of the room. He scans the messy interior with deep blue eyes before fixing his gaze on you. His eyes curve beautifully into a faint, apologetic smile, as if he feels sorry for stepping into such a chaotic space.
Noticing your gaze fall upon the plate, the man extends his hands a bit further. Resting on his long, pale fingers is warm, freshly steamed Baekseolgi (white rice cake). The fluffy cake is neatly garnished with pine nuts and jujubes. The sweet, savory scent of freshly steamed rice gently stimulates your senses.
"Just a neighborly greeting. It's nothing much... I steamed some rice cakes. It would be best to eat them before they get cold."
